NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender on the planet by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental comments from others destroy his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.
He started playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
