No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental feedback from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.

Phil began playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an undying love for poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
