NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental feedback from others destroy his dream of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
Phil started competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always strives to get better.
Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
