Omaha Hi Low: General Overview
Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most complicated but favored poker games. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant game, has grown in acceptance so rapidly.
Omaha 8 or better begins just like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to each player. A round of wagering follows where gamblers can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are handed out, this is referred to as the flop. A further sequence of betting happens. Once all the players have either called or folded, an additional card is flipped on the turn. an additional sequence of betting follows at which point the river card is flipped. The gamblers will have to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where many entrants can get flustered. Contrasted to Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player has to use exactly 3 cards on the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot might be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the best hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical notion in almost every poker game.
A low hand is more difficult, but really opens up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there is no lower hand available, the high hand takes the complete pot.
While it seems complex at first, following a few hands you will be able to pick up on the fundamental nuances of play with ease. Seeing as you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha/8 provides an overwhelming assortment of wagering possibilities and seeing that you have numerous players battling for the high, as well as many battling for the low hand. If you like a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it is worth your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
